Hello there! I’m glad you found your way to my little island amidst the vastness of the sea we call the internet. My name is Will, and I started Dad Gardener in 2021 to document and share my gardening adventures. I live in Muncie, Indiana with my wife and 4 children. We found our way here several years ago, after living in Denver, Colorado for a number of years early in our marriage. We enjoy living in the midwest, and have learned to love this landscape and all the exciting opportunities this region has to offer.

We have a small garden plot in our backyard, which we built shortly after purchasing this, our first house. In the future, we hope to expand, but for now it is plenty big enough to keep us busy throughout the year! If I’m going to spend time caring for this little spot of earth, I’d much rather be tending flowers or vegetables than mowing grass.
I spent my college summers in the mountains of northern New Mexico, and continue to maintain a strong connection to that place. The smell of Ponderosa pine will always elicit wonderful memories for me. The first garden that I could truly call my “own” was planted and cultivated in a small mountain valley outside of Cimarron, NM during the summer of 2009. Learning to grow a garden in this arid high-mountain environment was a great learning opportunity. My favorite part of that garden was the natural irrigation system that was fed by a mountain spring.

Having grown up in Kentucky, raising gardens with my family, and spending countless hours in my father’s greenhouse, you could say that my love of gardening and all things plants is somewhat genetic. I attended the University of Kentucky where I studied Landscape Architecture. Although I’ve not used that training in a traditional sense — working as a licensed landscape architect in a professional firm — I certainly employ the skills and knowledge gained from that training in my gardening adventures (and elsewhere in life).

Today, I’m a busy dad who still loves to get his hands dirty in the garden whenever I can find time. Gardening with my kids gives me a whole new perspective on things, as I experience them through their eyes. As they grow older, their time with me in the garden has evolved from wandering around and plucking things from plants for a few minutes (before moving on to playing in the gravel or something else that catches their eye) to a true interest in and support of tending the garden alongside myself. I hope you enjoy the stories I share here, as I continue to learn and experience the joy of gardening with my family.
